Brown has always been something of a mystery to me. I don't dislike his work by any means, but have always wondered how he reached such prestigious heights that his name was assumed to assure that a picture was one of quality. I guess we need festivals like this to educate rubes like me.
That must be it, and while I am always surprised by how nuts anything in life can get, I always believe it. As for Tennessee, I've been there several times, we did The Grand Ole Opry and in Memphis at the University saw a grand performance by Dixie Carter as Blanche in A Streetcar named Desire. Very hot.
I don't know what went down in terms of selections, but having programmed a series myself now, I will say: Always remember that what gets shown in any series or film festival is heavily dependent on what they could get. And you'd be surprised how NUTS it is to get stuff.
What a great line up! I wish I could be there to see a few films I've missed. A very talented, underappreciated director, thanks so much to all the people involved for putting this on...
Oh man!! You know I grew up in Tennessee (and lived in Knoxville for a brief time after college)...now what do we need to do to get you here in Houston for something similar b🤔

SMOULDERING FIRES is a masterpiece! I remember seeing that and, much like STELLA DALLAS, being so moved by it.

All good things true about Clarence Brown, but no Human Comedy? A genuine shame.

Understood completely.
Damn damn damn, won't be able to make it, and Brown a favorite director at my house.
Asheville is close enough to make this really frustrating...anyway, it will be fantastic and I greatly regret missing a chance to meet you irl.
At least I got to see Claude Jarman introduce Intruder in the Dust at TCMFF a few years ago, so there's that.
Have a wonderful time, it's going to be swell!

I wish I could make it out to the silents! All ones I haven’t seen yet. I have that biography though. Glad to hear it’s a good one.
