Part 1: The bottom half of my list of favorite new (yes, new) movies of last year

Two things. No wait, three. Thing one: I’ve been working on this for a while, but these are just thoughts, not organized reviews. I mostly don’t recap the plot or run down all of the artists. You will have to go elsewhere for that.

Thing Two, I’m discussing these movies in their entirety. I mostly don’t give away endings, but I give away other stuff, so this is AN OVERALL SPOILER WARNING (sorry for shouting, I wanted that to stand out on the page) and you can always come back and read a section after you’ve seen the movie. I recommend this practice anyway. See it big, at the cinema, and see it cold.

Thing Three, you know how people (including me at times) say, “This list is in no particular order” or “This is in alphabetical order” or “the order I saw them in” because they don’t want to issue a ranking? This is the year the Siren throws caution to the winds. This list is in order of how much I liked them. But do remember—I like them all.
